This article highlights the main disadvantages of Mac emulators and gives you an alternative to using them….one that won’t break the bank and force you to buy every device you want to test your website/app on. However, an emulator for macOS is not adequate for comprehensively testing and releasing software, no matter its user base. ![]() ![]() Needless to say, this is wildly useful in the software testing domain. Theoretically, and often in practice, this allows users to run Mac-specific applications. Mac emulators, often called an “emulator for Mac” or “Emulator for MacOS” essentially mimic the qualities, attributes, and functions of MacOS on a workstation (usually a laptop) running on a different OS (usually Windows). ![]() This guide simply makes the case that you shouldn’t ONLY use emulators to test software before pushing it to production. Before we begin, it is important to clarify that this guide doesn’t intend to discourage anyone from using Mac emulators during the software development/testing lifecycle.
